There are three types of inchoate, or incomplete, crimes: attempt, conspiracy, and solicitation. Select any one criminal offense and discuss how a person(s) could attempt a crime, conspire to commit a crime, and engage in the solicitation of a crime. In addition, inchoate crimes are often charged and punishable at the same level as if the crime actually occurred. As an example, a person who is charged with attempted homicide after shooting a firearm at a person, but not killing that person, is charged and potentially punished to the same degree as if the homicide took place. Do you agree that inchoate crimes should be charged at the same level as crimes that have been completed? Why or why not?
